Zoom Clown 3 Personal Political Clown Performance
This advanced course from The Online Clown Academy offers an investigation into how to make playful performance using your own personal material and / or political stance as a starting point.
“Audacious, surprising, challenging & fun.” - previous participant
Zoom Clown 3 builds on our Zoom Clown 2: Building Blocks to Clown Devising course. During Zoom Clown 3, you will apply your knowledge of how to devise clown performance through play, but this time we’ll be shining a light on how to generate material from our own life experiences and desires for change in the world. This course includes a scratch performance at our upcoming Clowning Out of Chaos Conference (working title).
This course is facilitated by Holly Stoppit and Robyn Hambrook, founders of The Online Clown Academy.
Over 6 x 2 ½ hour sessions Holly will lead you through explorations of how to play with your own personal material, and Robyn will guide you through investigations into how to address political issues through your performance.
You'll then receive support from Holly, Robyn and the other members of the group to create an original short solo piece to be performed in an online cabaret as part of The Online Clown Academy's Clowning Out Of Chaos Conference (working title).
There will be a final guided reflection session the following week, to help you articulate your learning through the course and consider how you might like to apply it to future performance projects.
“[I got] Enormous self confidence and lots of useful techniques.” - previous participant
“[It’s like] Joining a group of people with no idea what you're doing, having fun doing weird stuff for weeks and then somehow magically ending up with an act to perform at the end of it, completely unsure how or where that came from but just aware it works. Also great for learning a lot about yourself, personally and politically.” - previous participant
“[I enjoyed] the creation of a solo performance using my own material. Enjoyed the buzz of performing to a live audience.” - previous participant
Zoom Clown 3 draws on Holly and Robyn's specialities: exploring the personal (Holly) and the political (Robyn) through playful performance. Both Holly and Robyn focused their MA dissertations on these subjects and have since been integrating their findings into live theatrical projects as diverse as directing full length solo autobiographical theatre shows themed around mental health (Holly) and rallying a clown army to raise awareness of climate change at the Extinction Rebellion protests (Robyn).
