Body Play, Voice Play
A new collaboration with Briony Greenhill

Imagine a whole week of playing, celebrating your individuality and exploring authentic connection through vocal and physical improvisation.

For this week-long playshop, clown and impro teacher, Holly Stoppit and special guest teacher, Briony Greenhill will take you on a joyful, creative, musical, insightful journey.

Introducing Briony Greenhill

“As an artist I practice, perform and record primarily improvised music on themes of human depth, paradigm shift, the intimacy and bigger picture of our times.

As a teacher I help people bring out their full voices, develop their chops (musicianship), express themselves, connect and heal, and become great vocal improvisers.”

Holly and Briony met last year at Briony’s year-long students showcase. From the moment Holly set eyes on Briony, it felt uncannily clear that Briony’s relationship with the voice is parallel to Holly’s relationship with the inner clown. Both Briony and Holly act as midwives to the human spirit, so what will happen when these forces join together?

The Ingredients

Each day will be a mix of vocal exploration and physical, body-based play, with guided reflections sprinkled into the mix. Some of the themes we’ll be exploring:

  • Your quality of presence and play

  • Ways to unleash uninhibited, natural movement and voice

  • Exploring how it feels to be seen and heard and to share your creativity with others.

  • Playing with space, rhythm and qualities of movement, leading and following

  • Weaving sound baskets together; listening, collaborating

  • Soloing vocally and following the flow of melodic inspiration; gradually becoming free with that.

  • Improvising with sung words

  • Integrating lyrical, melodic, physical and interactive improvisation

Briony and Holly are excited about bringing their worlds together, to integrate vocal improvisation with physical play for expanded creative and therapeutic possibilities, drenched in humour and joy!

** This is for people who have done at least Holly’s intro to clowning weekend.

** This is for people who can sing in tune and keep a beat.

Will the summer schools be affected by coronavirus?

As ever, we are choosing to be optimistic! There will be an end to this and we’re hoping that by the summer the virus will have passed through and life will have settled - if that’s the case we’ll all need to top up on play and laughter and connection.

So we are continuing to accept applications for all summer schools - let’s think of them as ‘expressions of interest’, on the understanding that if things change for you or for us, we’ll let each other know.

Of course, whilst remaining positive we need to be clear that things are in a state of flux right now and it is possible that these courses may be cancelled. We will let you know as soon as we can if this happens.
